About Trees Plus LTD
Walter Byrd
Arborist/Horticulturist
Walter has had a lifelong passion for horticulture; from working at Stone Mountain State Park when the Stone Mountain Memorial Association created the Memorial area between the Memorial Hall and the carving to ownership of Trees Plus LTD.
After joining the Air Force in the late 1970s, Walter enrolled in core college courses. He subsequently attended DeKalb Community College under Professor Jimmy Stewart studying ornamental horticulture, greenhouse production, and turf care management. He then attended continuing education courses at the University of Georgia under Dr.
Michael Dirr, an expert in woody ornamentals. Walter has an extensive education in ornamental horticulture, agronomy, and soil science from the University of Georgia.
In the early 1980s, he became one of two major stockholders and VP/Director of Marketing and Sales for one of the top three pine straw companies in the country, where two million bales of pine straw were shipped up the eastern seaboard and 250,000 bales per year were installed in Atlanta, Greenville, SC; Charlotte, NC; and Birmingham, AL; all the while attending 17 nursery-affiliated conventions and trade shows each year, representing his company.
Walter is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and the Georgia Arborist Association (GAA). Now, with all the education and experience of his career, he is filled with knowledge that cannot be learned in a lifetime of reading books.
